Large Retailer Fined For
Hazardous Discharges - AUGUST 9, 2005
A judge in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin has ordered home improvement
supply company Menard Inc. to pay $2 Million in fines and surcharges for
illegally discharging pollutants into state waters. According to the
complaint filed by the state, employees at a Menard distribution center
in Eau Claire repeatedly dumped solvents, cleaners and other pollutants
down a drain that emptied into a tributary of the Chippewa River from
September 2001 to September 2003.
